Pass NCLEX-RN® and CGFNS® The First Time!

"...The test-taking strategies worked. And during those last test items, when I was gonna give up, Critical Questioning kicked in. I'm thankful I had that as a backup. Got me through all the way. God bless for what you do. Kudos! Keep up the good work, Ann! Again my thanks to you and all of the supportive staff. You never let me down." Sam Batara, RN, BSN

  • ATT - You must create a web account and register for the NCLEX-RN with Pearson Vue in order to receive an ATT. The ATT does not come from the state board of nursing but from Pearson Vue.

The exam registration and the license application to a state board of nursing are separate and distinct actions. They also have separate fees. Pearson Vue is a private company which has the contract to administer the exam for NCSBN, of which the state board is a member. The state board merely accepts application for a license by examination and declares the applicant eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN based on submitted credentials.

Once you receive the ATT, schedule the exam through the Pearson Vue NCLEX Candidate website. The state board notifies Pearson Vue of your eligibility to sit for the exam. We recommend you register for the exam with Pearson Vue two weeks after sending your application to the state board of nursing. Click on the NCLEX-RN tab (scroll to bottom of page) to see a demo on how to create a web account and register for the exam with Pearson Vue.

  • For its 30th anniversary (1977-2007), the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing School (CGFNS) is showcasing 18 nurses whose success stories personify the theme Dreams Fulfilled in its 2007-2008 calendar. National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN)

The purpose of NCSBN is to provide an organization through which Boards of Nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concerns affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. The major functions include developing the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN examinations, performing policy analysis and promoting uniformity in relationship to the regulation of nursing practice, disseminating data related to the licensure of nurses, conducting pertinent research and serving as a forum for information exchange for members. What State Boards of Nursing Do

Nearly 100 years ago, state government established boards of nursing to protect the public's health by overseeing and ensuring the safe practice of nursing. Boards of nursing achieve this mission by establishing the standards for safe nursing care and issuing licenses to practice nursing. Once a license is issued, the board's job continues by monitoring licensees' compliance to state laws and taking action against the licenses of those nurses who have exhibited unsafe nursing practice.

Individuals who serve on a board of nursing are appointed to their position. Your state law dictates the membership of the board of nursing, which usually includes a mix of registered nurses, licensed practical/vocational nurses, advanced practice registered nurses, and consumers. Together, they meet often to oversee board of nursing activities and to take disciplinary action on nurse licenses as necessary.

The boards of nursing in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and four United States territories-Guam, Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands-comprise the membership of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). Four states have two boards of nursing, one for registered nurses and one for licensed practical/vocational nurses: California, Georgia, Louisiana and West Virginia.

Compact States

A license issued by one of the members of the Compact States listed below will allow you to work anywhere within the Compact States. For example, if you have an Arkansas license, you will be able to practice in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin since these states are COMPACT States. In other words, one license is good for 22 states.

This means, it is a smart move to apply for licensure from a Compact State because in case you change your mind about where you will be working, you will not be encumbered by delays and more fees as you obtain the necessary license for the non-member state. Also, we suggest you pick a state with the least requirements (Arkansas) for eligibility and for the NCLEX-RN to expedite your application process. Every additional requirement will result to delays and costs.
