ATT - You must create a web account and register for the NCLEX-RN with Pearson Vue in
order to receive an ATT. The ATT does not come from the
state board of nursing but from Pearson Vue.
The exam registration and the license application to a state board of nursing
are separate and distinct actions. They also have separate fees.
Pearson Vue is a private company which has the contract to
administer the exam for NCSBN, of which the state board is a member.
The state board merely accepts application for a license by
examination and declares the applicant eligible to sit for the
NCLEX-RN based on submitted credentials.
Once you receive the ATT, schedule the exam through the Pearson Vue NCLEX Candidate website. The state board notifies Pearson Vue of your eligibility to
sit for the exam. We recommend you register for the exam with
Pearson Vue two weeks after sending your application to the state
board of nursing. Click on the NCLEX-RN tab (scroll to bottom of
page) to see a demo on how to create a web account and register for
the exam with Pearson Vue.
For its 30th anniversary (1977-2007), the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing School (CGFNS) is showcasing 18 nurses whose success stories personify the theme Dreams Fulfilled in its 2007-2008 calendar. December 2008 of this calendar features Ann H. Adams, Founder and CEO of NC STAFFING and ENTRALINK.

| National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN) |
The purpose of NCSBN is to
provide an organization through which Boards of Nursing act and counsel
together on matters of common interest and concerns affecting the public
health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing
examinations in nursing. The major functions include developing the
NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN examinations, performing policy analysis and
promoting uniformity in relationship to the regulation of nursing
practice, disseminating data related to the licensure of nurses,
conducting pertinent research and serving as a forum for information
exchange for members. For more information on NCSBN and the NCLEX
examinations, please visit
www.ncsbn.org.

| The NCLEX® Examination |
Under the
guidance of its membership, the National Council of
State Boards of Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN) develops and
administers two national nurse licensure examinations;
the National Council Licensure Examination for
Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN®) and the National Council
Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN®).
These two examinations are used by the Boards of Nursing
to test entry-level nursing competence of candidates for
licensure as Registered Nurses and as Licensed
Practical/Vocational Nurses. The NCLEX examinations are
provided exclusively as computerized adaptive tests.
|
| Compact States |
A license issued
by one of the members of the Compact States listed below
will allow you to work anywhere within the Compact
States. For example, if you have an Arkansas license,
you will be able to practice in Arizona,
Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky,
Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire,
New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, South
Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia
and Wisconsin since these states are COMPACT
States. In other words, one license is good for 22
states.
|
This means, it
is a smart move to apply for licensure from a Compact
State because in case you change your mind about where
you will be working, you will not be encumbered by
delays and more fees as you obtain the necessary license
for the non-member state. Also, we suggest you pick a
state with the least requirements (Arkansas) for
eligibility and for the NCLEX-RN to expedite your
application process. Every additional requirement will
result to delays and costs.
